DCU Center - Worcester, MA
The MassCyberCenter hosted the sixth annual Massachusetts Municipal Cybersecurity Summit on Wednesday, May 13 at the DCU Center in Worcester. At this free cybersecurity training event, attendees learned how to recognize emerging threats, bolster their defenses and respond to various cybersecurity challenges.
The Summit included presentations on current cybersecurity threats and the cybersecurity posture of municipalities, as well as an overview of state-subsidized programs providing Managed Detection and Response, Extended Detection and Response, and Zero Trust services as part of the MassCyberCenter’s Security Operations Center (SOC)/Cyber Range Initiative. Municipalities can now receive grants of up to $50,000 from the MassCyberCenter’s Cyber Resilient Massachusetts Grant Program to fund MDR and related SOC services from CyberTrust Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR), and MassCyberCenter teams presented key findings from a comprehensive review of recent Massachusetts data breach notifications. The report highlights system intrusions and internet-facing vulnerabilities as the top attack vectors in data breaches and recommends organizations prioritize conducting cybersecurity training, implementing MFA, replacing legacy IT, using stronger passwords, and improving threat monitoring.
